New York city is such a vibrant and exciting place its easy to see why its the top tourist destination in the US — and one of the most popular in the world. There’s so much to see and do in this “city that never sleeps” that many people find they must return to the Big Apple time and time again in a vain attempt to eventually see everything.
While New York is known for its luxury and opulence (it is the home of five star hotels New York, world-class restaurants, and some of the most expensive shopping in the world), the city has much to offer even the most budget-conscious tourist. Window-shopping, apartment swapping, and free theater and concerts in Central Park are staples of the New York experience.
Some of the more famous landmarks in New York are the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, and the World Trade Center site. NYC is also home to Carnegie Hall, Wall Street, Rockefeller Center, the Brooklyn Bridge, Madison Square Garden, and the headquarters of the United Nations.
Art lovers will find plenty of museums and galleries throughout the city, including the world-famous collections at the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Theater lovers can watch “Shakespeare in the Park” or attend any of the many Broadway and off-Broadway productions. Dance, Opera, and other performing arts can be found at Lincoln Center and other venues across the five boroughs.
Whether taking a carriage ride through Central Park, mingling with the crowds in Times Square, or eating one of New York’s famous hot dogs at Coney Island, the cliche New York experience is whatever you make of it.
