The most budget friendly package available is called the  Wimbledon experience tour. It offers the buyer a day at the Championships and one night’s accommodation.

Hindu Religion in Goa

June 8th, 2009 Posted in Travel Tags: , , , ,

As with most of the country of India, Goa has a strong Hindu population. This is a fascinating religion, with many ancient aspects. It has been incorporated into much of the culture through the arts and architecture. In the Vaishnavite tradition of Hindu, Vishnu is considered to be the supreme God. Followers of the Adi Shankara tradition consider him to be one of the five primary Gods. Tourists staying in one of the 5 star hotels Goa will encounter many aspects of Hindu’s influence on the city.

Vishnu can be loosely translated as The All Pervading One. It is believed that he is the preserver of the universe, and is associated with the all pervading waters that were here before the creation of the world. Early in the development of the Hindu religion, Vishnu held a less prominent place and was ranked with some of the lesser Gods. It was relatively recent that he rose to the position of all pervading. He has a thousand names, and part of a devotional ritual is the repetition of them. He is generally portrayed as blue or black and has four arms.

Hinduism asserts that part of the salvation of humans is dependent on one’s faithful following of a predetermined path or duty. Another aspect is that the forces of good and evil are always at odds and fighting for the control of the world and universe. Traditionally, Vishnu was associated with battling demonic forces and dragons. This probably accounts for his rise in status through the centuries. It is believed that Vishnu descends to the earth in one of his incarnations during times of great unbalance and chaos. He corrects the situation and restores harmony. It is believed that nine descents have already occurred. Rama and Krishna were the seventh and eights of these. A tenth descent has yet to occur.

The Tragedy of Extinction on the African Island of Mauritius

Evolution in isolation creates some bizarre and unusual traits in species, often created specialized characteristics that are effective only in certain situations and habitats. And although the Dodo bird on the African island of Mauritius, lost its ability to fly, scientists agree that this was not a failure for the now extinct species. In a book written on the island and the species, found in the souvenir shop of any Mauritius luxury hotel,  called the The Song of the Dodo, scientist David Quammen states the the Dodo bird’s evolutionary path was in fact a successful path. Evolution happens to allow species to adapt to the local conditions and environment in which one lives and must thrive. This evolutionary path was many million years in the making. At that time when the bird was first introduced to the island, there were no humans, no predators, and all the sustenance necessary for survival was found in the fruit that fell from the trees and was available on the ground.

The birds are commonly thought to lack the ability to fly because they are fat. The storage of fat, is one of the processes of evolution, as quite often food was scarce and the ability to store fat, contributed and was responsible for their survival. Dutch and Portuguese began settling on the island during the 1500 and 1600′s. The birds had no previous reasons to fear human beings, and as such, the ground rooted birds became easy targets for hunting. The birds were calm and friendly, trusting the sailors. Hunting the birds was one contribution to their extinction, as well as the animals that were on the sailor’s ships such as monkeys, rats and pigs. These species did not attack the adult birds, but their young and their eggs. One of the scientists that has studied Mauritius and the Dodo is from the Royal Museum of Scotland,  and he states that it was not their weight that affected their survival, as the birds were much thinner and more agile than the caricatures depict. Andrew Kitchener states that they were much more intelligent as well, and will be missed as one of the many species on the list of those that are now extinct.

Star Trek and the summer box office

People were worried about Star Trek, but after it received mostly rave reviews from movie critics across the map of the world, the fans replied with their take. In the United States, the movie took in $ 72.5 million in its first weekend.

Star Trek also took in $4 million more in Thursday previews that were not added in to the weekend total.

Star Trek is now competing with X-Men Origins: Wolverine for summer box office smash status across all world maps, the United States map and beyond…..

Hollywood however wishes that expectation bars could be set a little lower, because these big box office numbers are being seen as a failure in the media. Reuters has reported that the summer box office numbers are expected to fall by at least 3 or 4 percent.

But, only weeks into the summer movie season, Paramount’s Star Trek is on the verge to push the company past Warner Bros. as the studio making the most money this year at the Box Office. Paramount is about $50 million away from that goal thus far. Paramount stood no chance against Warner Bros. smash Batman flick “The Dark Knight.”

Warner Bros. still has Terminator Salvation in its summer line up which could still put Warner Bros. over the edge. Later in the year Warner Bros. will also release the sixth film in its lucrative Harry Potter series.

No matter where you decide to put your money this summer, if you do decide to go see a ten dollar movie, it will shape these two companies and what they choose to release or pursue in the future. The summer box office does not look too exciting for those who aren’t really in to sequels, or remakes. Renting may be the best way to go if you are not in the mood to spend the cash the movies require.

Some fast food employees could use some serious customer service training

YouTube created another controversy. There was a video featuring Dominos employees that showed them basically defiling food they were preparing for customers.

In a world now of constant take out food and sit down restaurants it is rather disturbing to think what disgruntled employees might be doing to the food that we all order.

The scandal became so much of a big deal that the Dominos execute had to post a response to the video and because it became such a sensation.

And Dominos is not the only one. There is a video on YouTube of a young man using a sink as a bathtub. He was a Burger King employee. And of course it probably happens more than you think.

This seems to happen when customer service training for the employees or management training for the managers goes by the wayside. It’s when employees don’t think their company cares about them that they feel a need to do things like this.

Again it can be difficult to control the mindset of every employee in a company as big as Dominos or Burger King.

Why did these employees choose to put these on YouTube? Surely they had to know that someone would see them and that there would be backlash. It’s good that Dominos chose to react because something like this can seriously ruin the management of their brand.

Let’s just hope that employees at local fast food and restaurants we visit don’t have employees that do this kind of thing. It’s just another example of how it’s necessary to have a manager present at all times. For a business to function properly there has to be at least a bit of pride in the business you are working for. Or they used to call it having manners. Or perhaps just a little overall business training?
