The Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea are thriving in tourist appeal and draw. The beautiful Spanish islands have been the historic paradise of choice for the Spanish Royal family and many others. However, in recent decades they have become major attractions in the world’s eye and growing numbers of tourists visit them each year. This has affected the financial industry of the islands and tourism now accounts for a major portion of their gross incomes.
There are four major islands in the Balearic collection. Mallorca is the largest and most heavily populated of them. Its capital city is Palma and thousands of visitors arrive to its airport every summer. However, as with the other islands, the summer is not the only season that is great for visiting. Many people prefer the fall and winter, or even spring as these seasons are usually quieter and there is more room in the 5 star hotels Balearics.
The second largest island of the four is Minorca, and it is known for its pristine beaches and peaceful atmosphere. There are excellent opportunities to visit historic ruins and also incredible landmarks. This is a great island for a quiet and culture filled getaway. Ibiza is the third largest of the four main islands and is internationally known for its club and nightlife scene. The two main towns on the island San Antonio and Ibiza Town have numerous nightclubs that attract patrons and party goers from all over the world. Ibiza even attracts a growing number of celebrities, including Kate Moss. Formentera is the smallest of these islands and is truly an amazing paradise. The beaches are clear with sparkling shores and white sands. It is accessed by ferry and it is common for vacations on Ibiza to spend a day or two on the beautiful shores of Formentera.
