It may seem like a simple job, but it takes a number of people to run a successful property management company, especially when you have hundreds of properties spread out across many states, across a country, or even across multiple countries. When you only have one or two properties it may seem a little easier to do all the jobs yourself, especially if you are not responsible for a home owners association payment, a pool, yard maintenance, or utilities. As more properties become involved in the equations and as they spread out further, it can become much more complicated.

If you look at the job listings that have been put up by a well known, respected property manager at any given time, you might notice that there are some key jobs that it will suddenly make sense why they need them. This includes a building superintendent , because not all the properties will be stand alone homes, but might be larger buildings with many homes, or even a number of homes built adjacent to each other. In some cases the superintendent will also be the building maintenance person, but when he isn’t qualified for that, or when a team of more is needed for the job there will often also be maintenance positions open. One of the reasons many people want to rent is so that they don’t have to fix things when they break. This means that for a lot of people when they are renting the response time of maintenance when it is necessary and the frequency of necessary maintenance is critical in deciding if they will rent in that building. The maintenance person or superintendent may also refer to someone who covers a whole neighborhood. This is a little harder, but usually means that one or both of these people will be taking care of a number of houses in a given area.

My little sister wants to be a famous saxophone player. She is twenty-two and has loved jazz music since she was about six years old. She is something of an anomaly in our family as we have no idea where she first developed her love for jazz or actually how she was even exposed to it. However it happened, it did, and she started playing the saxophone when she was eight and has never looked back. So, last summer when she asked me to go with her to Austin, Texas I wasn’t surprised. She decided she needed to move from our small farming community in Kansas and for obvious reason, well to me anyway, Austin was one of her to choices.

And it sounded like a great trip to me, so I absolutely said yes and even paid for one of our night’s stay in an austin luxury hotel as my contribution to her effort. She appreciated this as she’s a broke musician and I’m a relatively stable financial planner. Insert a slight laughter there. Anyway, much as I expected we had a great time in Austin. She wanted to check out some of the local clubs that featured life music while we were there and that was great with me.

We actually encountered some really cool clubs and the musicians were all really good. I was kind of surprised, they all seemed like they could be professionals. Casey, my sister, told me that was just the way it is in Austin. I could definitely see her attraction. One of the places we went to was on Congress Ave. It’s called the Elephant Room . We got there early, in time for happy hour and then stayed for the music. This would be a great place for my sister to perform as I think they’re predominantly a jazz club. I could definitely see her on the stage.

Some of my roommates are, unfortunately, celiacs. This means they have a gluten, wheat or wheat byproduct, intolerance and means when it’s my night to cook I tend to be at a loss. I grew up in a family where starchy foods and lots of bread were common in dinner often my mom would serve any number of meals ranging from fried southern fare to Italian inspired dishes. Since my arrival here I’ve discovered a wide variety of alternatives to wheat starch in my meals that normally call for it and have explored cuisine from regions I love that don’t necessarily involve anything that contains gluten.

There are plenty of cuisines you can find that aren’t heavy starch or wheat, usually these are Asian dishes. Thai dishes in particular are wonderful for creamy broths with bold flavor without having to modify a recipe around a gluten laden ingredient. Mediterranean dishes, like ninety-percent of Italian cuisine , I’ve encountered have becomes synonymous with pastas breads and all sorts of wonderful dishes I can’t prepare for my friends. Bright side, there are plenty of rice dishes and many dishes that don’t include pasta or, if I have my heart set on pasta and up to trying something new, there are now gluten-free flours made from potato starch now available. Recently, I tasted some of the best chicken and dumplings I have ever tried that turned out to be completely gluten-free. I’m looking forward to trying a gluten-free lasagna recipe soon.

It turns out restaurants, even those celiacs previously avoided, are introducing gluten free meals. I even overheard recently that Starbucks is introducing gluten free drinks, my roommate’s verdict was still pricey but good. Some of the shocking restaurants to discover have these new menus are P.F. Chang ´s , Chili’s , Boston Market, and even The Old Spaghetti Factory . This is delightful since it gives me the option of calling and getting some take out when I can’t make up my mind to cook.

March 14, 2010 was Miami’s Infamous Calle Ocho festival ! This year was absolutely amazing! Fabulous food, loud music, laughter and cheers all around. With the streets lined with vendors and food, it was a sight to be seen. There were no dance floors, just people dancing in the streets to salsa and reggaeton.

Although Calle Ocho is located in what is known as Little Havana, the party was for all Latinos. People sported their country’s flags in every way imaginable. It was a sight of a true melting pot, no fights no disrespect, just mutual pride and love. Uruguayans, Puerto Ricans, Nicaraguans, Cubans, Mexicans, and many more! Everyone was welcome and they were all able to stay in one of Miami’s local hotels .

One, two, three four, Pitbull! Calle Ocho’s very own Armando Christian Perez was there to perform! He is a hit among the ladies’ with his smooth lyrics and daring good looks. But no matter if you are male or female, old or young; you cannot deny his talent and skill.

Pitbull was born in Miami to Cuban immigrants. He has always kept his roots in Miami, and felt a strong connection to his culture. This is most likely the reason for his homage to the city streets in his famous song “Calle Ocho”.

As a blued eyed, white skinned Cuban American, it was hard for Pitbull to gain respect on the streets and in the rap industry. He was on a mission to make sure that Miami was recognized in the music industry, and to bring his style of reggaeton rap Cuban salsa mix to the table. As his record sales have shown, Pitbull is here to stay.

Miami has embraced this Cuban rapper, and bestowed upon him a “Key to the City”. It is an honor that few receive.

One of the special engagement features currently being displayed at the Museum of Science and Technology in Tampa, Florida is the traveling exhibit of Da Vinci The Genius and The Secrets of the Mona Lisa . The museum frequently hosts these special engagement traveling exhibits and they are a regular favorite of their consistent patrons. For people who are visiting Tampa, they are generally surprised by the quality of the exhibits and general features of the museum and also enjoy the limited time offerings. Some of the regular visitors to Tampa include a calendar of the traveling exhibits and plan their trips around it.

The Da Vinci exhibit has been eagerly awaited and comes from Italy. It was created by Il Genio di Leonardo da Vinci Museo and Grande Exhibitions to demonstrate the various aspects of this great artist’s life. And while he is predominately known for his art, he was actually much more than just a painter. Da Vinci brilliance extended into the sciences and he was an inventor, an anatomist, an architect and an engineer.

This incredible display is interactive and includes life size machines that were designed and built by Italian Artisans from Da Vinci’s codices. They include examples of his most famous artwork and 3D animations of them and anatomical sketches. The paintings included in this aspect are the Mona Lisa , The Last Supper and Vitruvian Man. This is definitely the most comprehensive of exhibit that has ever been based on the life and works of Leonardo Da Vinci and it will be making stops across the world. There are only a few designated locations in the United States and the museum in Tampa is one of them. It is scheduled to run at the MOSI through May 31. This exhibit alone is worth not only a trip to the museum but also a trip to Tampa.

Looking at arts and cultures around the world is always a fascinating thing. There are always ideas and notions that get reinforced, as well as ones that get changed utterly. Most of the time, what happens in the quest for difference is that we find out more about ourselves, and how our own particular lenses are constructed to see the world. This is perhaps the greatest part of looking at international trends in art, because helps us to see our own biases and expectations, and also teaches us that we are still teachable. Singapore is one of the most exciting places in the world right now in this regard, with a blend of cultures that are constantly re-defining contemporary art, as well as re-defining tradition.

It’s a splendid thing indeed to be able to begin a night on the town at one of Singapore’s many excellent chinese restaurants , and sampling some of the most delicious culinary traditions on the planet. This is usually traditional cooking from the south of China, where a majority of Singapore’s population comes from, and it’s a great chance to learn about a culture in the most delightful way. From here, there is a wealth of choices for things to do on the town, and if multi-ethnic dance interests you, then you’ll be thrilled by the work of Sri Warisan Som Said .

Their focus has been on dance in the past, but now they also include music, vocal, and multi-media works in their ever-expanding repertoire. The emphasis is always on fusions, and particularly cultural fusions, demonstrating the great variety of cultural traditions in contemporary Singapore. They have roots in Malay dance, and, in the past decade, have participated in literally hundreds of performances, and new collaborations are always in the works. This is one way to step into the folkloric local work, and get accustomed to new ways of seeing.
