Life in the Backyard

June 7th, 2011 Posted in Home Tags:

In the digital age many kids are more likely to be found sitting in their homes rather than playing outside. They meet their friends online or in multi-player games on their Xbox or Wii. They text on their cellphones and chat on their computers. A few are even old school enough to sit watching television or videos. While some of these activities may be channeled into educational options, they still can’t compare with time spent out in the sun and fresh air.

Children should spend at least a part of their day engaged in active play. This will not only help prevent childhood obesity . It will establish lifelong habits of activity and will help kids develop an appreciation for being outside.

Having a swing set and swing set accessories likes slides and monkey bars are a great incentive to outdoor play. Purchasing bicycles and skates are also good options. Some kids may ask for sports equipment so that they can play baseball, football, or soccer in their backyard. A family swimming pool, even a small above ground pool will also draw kids outside. A treehouse, playhouse, or even a tent can encourage kids to spend outside instead of in — parents just need to make sure that they aren’t taking their portable video games and cell phones with them.

Property Management Companies Reduce Headaches

June 1st, 2010 Posted in Home Tags:

A great property management company will take care of a number of things that would have otherwise given you a headache. While it is apparent and obvious for most home owners who live in another town to find a property management company it can also eliminate a lot of the headaches and problems that can come with being a property owner.

Some of the headaches that come with being a property owner that a property management comapny can deal with include but are certainly not limited to the following.

Emergency phone calls at three in the morning. Or at any other time. It can be very unpleasant to get up at three in the morning on a Saturday to open a door that was stuck shut and party guests are not able to leave. Worse yet is getting up at three in the morning to wade through a flooded basement, or to fix a burst pipe. These things also require a lot of phone calls sometimes and can mean hours on the phone. Some people can’t even handle five or ten minutes on the phone. Having a property manager is a good way to get out of doing that.

Propriety taxes are also a pain, more so than some of the other things that comes with owning a property like collecting rent and paying for upkeep and repairs. A good management company will not only take in the money for rent and pay for upkeep, maintenance, and repairs, but will also use that money from the rent to pay for taxes on the property. What is left over after these things and after their share you will receive, so you will still make money each month without having to worry if you did the property taxes right or any of the other money hassles.

When a tenant moves out it can cause a lot of hassle with having to clean everything , make it look very nice, and then getting a new tenant in. During this time you are spending a lot of money and not making any. This is the best time to have a property management company. They will have lots of connections and know people who are looking for a place to move into. They also don’t get paid unless you do so their money is determined by them getting someone into the house who will pay the rent.

Yoga and Hot Tubs Make Perfect Combinations

December 20th, 2009 Posted in Home Tags: , ,

Mike had recently begun taking yoga classes and was already amazed at the changes he felt taking place in both his body as well as his mind. He actually felt more centered, confident and stable during his stressful days at the law firm and he thought he was better able to leave work at the office when he returned home everyday. He was so inspired by the changes he felt occurring that he wanted to be sure and incorporate yoga into his daily life and he wanted to create all the resources necessary to make this possible. He was going to set up a small studio in his den when a thought suddenly struck him. He had been interested in overhauling his backyard for the past few months but wasn’t sure what he wanted to do with it. He want to his French doors that led out to his patio. He stared out for a moment and suddenly knew exactly what he wanted to do.

The next day after work he stopped at one of the home improvement stores that he knew carried hot tubs and home spa designs.  He looked through the models and found one he knew was right for him. He made the purchase that day and also consulted with the department that supplied deck building materials. Previously Mike had thought he would pay someone to construct the deck but now he thought it would be more therapeutic for him to do it himself. He felt particularly zen as he worked on the deck for about a month and when it was ready he had the hot tub installed. The deck included a small gazebo on one end with a nice area that would be perfect for him to lay down his yoga matt and do his morning routine. He planted lilacs next to the deck so that the aroma could waft over him as he practiced his yoga and as well as soak in his new tub. Mike was so pleased with his new health oriented backyard that invited all of his friends over for a dip in the tub and in the process made some converts to the practice of yoga.

Cooking Safely with the Outdoor Patio Fireplaces

December 15th, 2009 Posted in Home Tags: ,

While people often search for a fireplace inside their home or apartment, the crackle of flames stirring some warm and cozy memories of childhood and time spent with friends and families, I find that it’s the outdoor patio fireplaces that trigger some ancient, primal memory for me.   My own brother loves roasting and grilling turkeys for Thanksgiving and Christmas over an outdoor fireplace, and I think it might trigger that same memory for him, linking us to our earliest ancestors, two hundred to four hundred thousand years ago, when cooking over an open fire was not a luxury but a necessary skill to learn for survival.

To ensure our continued survival, we want to make absolutely certain that our outdoor fireplace is safe and secure.  There’s a few things you want to keep in mind to accomplish that goal:

First, make sure the fireplace is in a level area, that it’s some distance from the house or any other buildings in the backyard; the fireplace should be placed, too, on a concrete surface, or any surface, really, that’s fireproof.  Second, make certain the cooking area is thoroughly clean.  If there’s debris or grease from previous outdoor cooking excursions, then this can present itself as a possible hazard.  If you have children, make sure they understand that they are to stay away from the fireplace when it’s in use.  Children can often do unexpected things, which are not in your or their best interest.  Better to have someone watch over them while you cook, so you can give the job all the attention it deserves.

Finally, once you start a fire, don’t leave it alone or unwatched.  A fire is a lot like children, in that it can do unexpected things.  If a wind comes up, or any number of events, the fire can spread extremely quickly.  Keeping a fire extinguisher nearby is always a good idea.

A Wonderful Family BBQ and a Great Soak in a Hot Tub

One of the best times in some environments is the summer time, as this is when the backyard barbecues take place, and the hot tub parties begin.  However, in the Southwestern Desert, this is the time when we all tend to stay inside, as standing over a hot grill, and soaking in hot water is just too much to think about.  For us, the perfect time of year is the Autumn Season.  This is when that extra warmth of the grill and the hot tub can really be experienced and enjoyed, quite frankly, without fainting from the heat.

All of the ingredients that you place atop a grill become consumed with flavor.  All of the senses are enhanced at this time, as when the temperature falls below 118 degrees, you can actually begin to smell the scents again, not only of the heated grill, but of the incredible outdoors as well.  Creating the perfect backyard design, when you are prone to hosting large parties, is essential.  When you choose to install an outdoor kitchen, but need to figure out how to place it next to your new hot tub or spa, the people at choosehottubsdirect.com are always there to help, whether they are answering your questions regarding their vast inventory, or offering suggestions on your layout, their help has solved the issues for not only myself, but for many of my friends as well.

We were lucky to have all of our outdoor amenities for this Thanksgiving past, and this was one of the most successful celebrations in our backyard dinner party endeavors.  What was great, was for one the weather, and for two, the fact that while our guests eagerly awaited the 6 hour slowly roasted turkey, they could relax, chat and reminisce while taking in a hot tub soak.  When everyone was able finally to approach the dinner table, eye lids were heavy and we were all relaxed.  This was truly one of the best holidays ever.

Hot Tubs For Health and Fun

October 27th, 2009 Posted in Home, Sports Tags: , ,

Purchasing and installing a hot tub in your own backyard can be an extremely exciting and fun. Meanwhile, with so many options available and so many different functions and reasons for their purchase it can also be somewhat confusing and possibly even stressful for the consumer. This is particularly disturbing when given that one of the primary purposes of a hot tub is to reduce stress and offer relaxation. This is why great companies such as choosehottubsdirect.com are focused on guiding the customer through the purchasing process as well as to ensure a quality product.

With such a diverse amount of lifestyle perspectives it makes sense that the intended function of a personal hot tub will also be diverse. For this reason it is highly recommended that before making your purchase you make list of priorities for how you wish to use your tub. This is frequently taken into consideration with the overall design of a backyard. Some people are extremely health oriented and wish to create a therapeutic environment. Flowers can be planted around the hot tub area to assist in establishing an aromatherapy atmosphere and often there will be designated yoga and tai chi spaces near by. Instead of an outdoor barbeque, they may have a tea station with a mediation rug and soft outdoor furniture.

Of course there are also those families that have the strong intention of using their hot tubs for entertainment purposes and want to transform their backyard into a party zone. Barbeques and or elaborate backyard kitchens and bars are often included with these plans as are small golf putting yards or croquet games. Volley ball and sometimes even a dance floor help to complete this theme. Meanwhile, for the consumer that isn’t looking to completely redesign their backyard landscape and simply wants to add a hot tub, this is not intended to add work to their purchase. It is also possible and common to choose a hut tub and simply add it to the already existing yard features. Whatever the reason for a hot tub purchase, it should be fun and provide a product that will bring years of joy.
